The Eldritch Flowering of Prydain
Synod of Hwītmynster
The Synod of Hwītmynster is scheduled to take place on Trinity Sunday of this year (A.D. 665). It is a follow-up to the recent Synod of Whitby, in which King Oswiu of Northumbria declared the Roman Rite to be the official form of Christian worship within his realm. In attendance will be Bishop Agilbert, recently of the See of Dorchester, but having now resigned due to differences with King Cenwalh of the West Saxons. Preceding him is the newly-appointed Archbishop of Canterbury, Alhfrith. Also in attendance will be Bishop Chad of Mercia, King Wulfhere of Mercia, and a collection of sub-kings and Ealdormen from around the realms recently added to the Kingdom of Mercia by King Wulfhere and his warband. Eanwulf, chief Ealdorman of Mercia, is the chosen spokesman for the rest of the Ealdormen, while Wulfhere’s brother is to speak on behalf of the Athelings (members of the royal family other than the King).
